Moorfields Keratoconus Risk Calculator

About

This work is a collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital, the Institute of Ophthalmology and University College London with Phenopolis, a London-based health-tech company that specialises in developing game-changing quality software for bioinformatics and healthcare to drive and innovate medical research worldwide.

We used demographic and serial corneal tomography data from 8,701 eyes of 4,823 patients with keratoconus using a Pentacam HR, to calculate the risk for keratoconus progression as defined by having CXL surgery.

We have fitted a prognostic model to the data which generates a time-to-event curve using age, Kmax, Front K1 and minimum pachymetry from time of presentation.

We hope that personalized modelling of risk may improve patients’ understanding of their condition and the need for CXL.
